Nirmal Singh replaces D K Kotwal as J&K BJP chief

December 26, 2002 14:12 IST

Bharatiya Janata Party has replaced Jammu and Kashmir party president Daya Krishan Kotwal with Nirmal Singh following the debacle in the recently concluded assembly elections in the state.

“Immediately after elections results were out, Kotwal submitted his resignation but we asked him to continue for some more time,” BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said.

The national executive committee has approved Singh's appointment and he would be taking care of the party affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, Naidu added.

BJP has decided extend the membership enrolment drive by a month upto January 31 while verification would be taken up till February 20 and active members list will be considered by March 15, he added.
