The RailTel Corporation of India, which is laying Optic Fibre Cable network for the Indian Railways, will enter into agreements with cellular phone operators to provide uninterrupted mobile phone connectivity along the railway tracks.
The OFC network is being laid on the Jaipur-Ahmedabad railway route, while the networking on the Delhi-Jaipur section is nearing completion and that of the Mathura-Kota Section has already been completed, managing director of the corporation A K Chopra said.
The OFC network would provide a bandwidth of 32 megabytes at each station, supported by 625 mbs at selected stations. On completion of the OFC network on the Jaipur-Ahmedabad route, a separate 2.5 gigabytes system connecting all metro cities would be in place.
The work of providing connections is in progress at various railway stations and the OFC system is likely to be completed by March-April 2003.
