The confusion is over finally. Production house Gemini Film Circuit who bought the remake rights of 3 Idiots have managed to rope in Shankar to direct the Tamil and Telugu remakes of the Hindi film.

It was first reported that Vijay would essay the role of Rancho, played by Aamir Khan. After many deliberations, Jiiva and Srikkanth were chosen to play the roles done by Sharman Joshi and Madhavan, respectively. Next came the news that Vijay backed out of the project due to date problems, and Suriya had stepped in.

Now, the production house has officially announced that after the success of Kaavalan, Vijay is back in the project. In fact, Vijay will start shooting for the film from February 25.

Currently, the scenes involving Jiiva, Srikanth, Sathyaraj, Sathyan and S J Suryah are being shot in Ooty. Vijay's portions would be canned from February 25.

The film is titled Nanban in Tamil. Telugu actress Ileana will play Kareena Kapoor's role in both the Tamil and Telugu versions.

The credit list includes Manoj Paramahamsa (cinematography), Harris Jayaraj (music), Muthuraj (art), Anthony (editing), Na Muthukumar (lyrics) and, Shankar and Madan Korgy (dialogues). Shankar has written the screenplay as well.

Gemini Film Circuit earlier made Vasool Raja MBBS (a remake of Munnabai MBBS). It also distributed Rajnikanth's Enthiran in Tamil Nadu, North India and overseas, and Kamal Haasan's Manmadhan Ambu in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and abroad.
