Nagarjuna shines in the first half of 2016

Nagarjuna is having a good year. His films -- Soggade Chinni Nayana and Oopiri -- have become big hits.

Here's a look at the biggest Telugu hits of 2016 so far.

 

Oopiri

Oopiri

Vamsi Paidipally’s remake of the French film The Intouchables was humorous, heart-warming and uplifting.

The film was a winner from the word go with excellent performances from Nagarjuna (as a quadriplegic) and Karthi (his caretaker). Tamannaah played Nag’s secretary in this Telugu-Tamil bi-lingual film produced by PVP Cinema.

Oopiri impressed many and even managed to earn over Rs 100 crore at the box office.


Soggade Chinni Nayana

Soggade Chinni Nayana

Nagarjuna plays a double role in Soggade Chinni Nayana, helmed by first time director Kalyan Krishna.

Ramya Krishna and Lavanya Tripathi also starred in the film.

The film was another hit in Nag's career, as it raked in Rs 70 crore at the box office. A sequel is on the cards.

 

Sarainodu

Sarainodu

Allu Arjun laughed his way to box office success with Sarainodu which was later dubbed into Malayalam.

Co-starring Rakul Preet Singh and Catherine Tresa, the film was directed by Boyapati Srinu. It ended up grossing over Rs 100 at the box office.


Nannakku Prematho

NTR Jr

Nannakku Prematho was one of the earliest releases of this year, on January 13.

Under Sukumar’s direction, NTR Jr packed a solid punch with a new makeover.

The film also starred Rajendra Prasad, Jagapathi Babu and Rakul Preet Singh.

Being a festival release, the film had already brought in Rs 80 crore.

Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, A Aa catapulted Nithiin into big league, with the film becoming the highest grosser of his career.

It has made over Rs  71 crore in about 18 days and is still going strong in the theatres.

This family drama has also proved lucky for actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu.


Express Raja

Express Raja

Sankranti festival augured a successful season for films as another release, Express Raja starring Sharwanand, tasted success.

A film made on a modest budget, it was able to rake in over Rs 28 crore -- the highest in Sharwanand’s career.
