Golmaal 3 beats Action Replayy at the box office

The Diwali week saw two major releases -- both in the comedy genre. While Action Replayy failed to generate interest and draw in audiences, Golmaal 3 emerged as the winner, opening reasonably well and tripling the opening day collections on Saturday and Sunday.

Trade analyst Vinod Mirani gives us the box office verdict for the week.

Unfunny gags.

Action Replayy

Cast: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Ranvijay Singh.
Director: Vipul Shah.

Background score sounds good

BO Verdict: Poor opening.



Cast: Mallika Sherawat, Irrfan Khan, Divya Dutta.
Director: Jennifer Lynch.
Mallika looks good.

Tacky, poor special effects.

Rakta Charitra

Cast: Vivek Oberoi, Shatrughan Sinha, Suriya, Priyamani.
Director: Ram Gopal Varma.
Acting is okay.

Too much violence and gore.

Jhootha Hi Sahi

Cast: John Abraham, Pakhi, Raghu Ram, Manasi Scott.
Director: Abbas Tyrewala.

John's performance and cinematography.

Weak script.

Knock Out

Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Kangna Ranaut, Irrfan Khan.
Director: Mani Shankar.
Irrfan Khan is terrific.

Unrealistic climax.

BO Verdict: Flop.



Cast: Ajay Devgn, Bipasha Basu, Akshaye Khanna, Paresh Rawal.
Director: Priyadarshan.
Acting is brilliant, beautifully shot and engrossing script.

Action sequences are a little exaggerated.

Crook: It's Good to be Bad

Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Neha Sharma and Arjan Bajwa.
Director: Mohit Suri.

Noble topic, good music.

Weak script.

Number of weeks: 4.
BO Verdict: Flop.


Do Dooni Char

Cast: Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Aditi Vasudev and Archit Krishna.
Director: Habib Faizal.

Rishi is in top form.

Limiting script.

Number of weeks: 4.
BO Verdict: Flop.



Cast: Rajnikanth, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Danny Denzongpa.
Director: Shankar.

Rajnikanth rocks. Great special effects.

Too long.
