Boeing 787 Dreamliner resumes flights

Ethiopian Airlines became the world's first carrier to resume flying Boeing Co's 787 Dreamliner passenger jets, since the global fleet was grounded three months ago.

The flight took off from Addis Ababa on Saturday and headed to Nairobi. The US Federal Aviation Authority issued a formal approval of Boeing's 787 battery fix, clearing the way for the airline to fly again.

Around 50 Dreamliners in operation stopped operations after Japan's All Nippon Airways had to undertake an emergency landing following a battery malfunction in January.

Japan, which is expected to resume services by June, is the biggest market for the Dreamliner, with ANA and Japan Airlines Co flying 24 of the 50 Dreamliners.

The Dreamliner is one of the fuel efficient aircraft in the world. It consumes around 15 per cent less fuel as compared to Airbus 330 and around 30 per cent less as compared to Boeing-777.
