Weston, one of the leading television brands of yesteryears, is all set to make a come back. Sunil Vachani, the chairman and managing director of Dixon Utilities, the company that owns the Weston brand, told Business Standard that after confining itself in OEM for almost a decade, the company is now once again trying to make inroads into the domestic market with the Weston brand.

Vachani was in Kolkata for the launch of its flat CTV ranges. He said he is optimistic that the Weston brand could once again be in the big league.

The company is now offering 16 products in CTV. Vachani claimed that Weston has launched the cheapest flat TV in the country with a price tag of Rs 6,990.  "Such a cheap price will revolutionise the market," he added.

Senior vice president (marketing) of Weston, Sunil Sethi informed that the company is eyeing a 35 per cent growth in CTV sales this year. Dixon has achieved Rs 70 crore (Rs 700 million) turnover for Weston brand in 2004-05. It is hoping to cross Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion) mark in the current fiscal.

According to Sethi, Dixon had posted a turnover of Rs 450 crore (Rs 4.5 billion) in 2004-05. The majority of the turnover was from OEM division mopping up Rs 350 crore (Rs 3.5 billion). "But now this is going to change," he added.
