The New York-based Warburg Pincus, the world's second largest private equity firm, plans to invest $500 million in India.
According to media reports the company also plans to shift its Singapore team to Mumbai to help manage the holdings in India.
Warburg had earlier invested $292 million in mobile phone operator Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd.
E M Warburg & Co, Inc was an investment banking and private investment counseling company founded in 1939 by the late Eric Warburg. In 1966, the business merged with Lionel I Pincus & Co, a venture capital, investment and financial consulting firm.
In 35 years, the firm has created in excess of $33.5 billion of value by investing more than $12 billion in approximately 450 companies in 29 countries around the world.
The firm raised its first private equity fund in 1971 and has gone on to raise nine private equity funds totaling more than $13.8 billion.
