Volvo, the Swedish truck manufacturer, will increase the sourcing of auto components from India by 20 million euro from the current 50 million.

The company will increase the number of professionals in its IT and designing segment in India by 200 professionals in another couple of years.

The company already has 400 professionals. "The sourcing of components and IT work from India is going to progressively increase in the future for the company's parent," said Eric Leblanc, managing director, Volvo India.

Volvo in 2005 has sold more than 600 trucks and 400 buses. However, its largest revenue contributor is the construction equipment division.

Volvo on Friday launched its new FH and FM range of trucks. The trucks are equipped with 13 litre engine and have more power and better drivability then its predecessor and are available with power outputs up to 520 hp. Compared with the current 12 litre engine, they consume less fuel. The engines also meet EURO III norms.

The new FH and FM trucks will lead towards high performing trucks in India. The Indian market is maturing and there is a genuine need in the industry for modern, efficient and high power trucks to ensure sustainable transport solutions.

The change is exemplified among our customers who today run up to exclusive fleets of 150 Volvo trucks and provide us with a 60 per cent repeat purchase rates," said Leblanc.

Volvo India is ready to face any competition from other truck manufacturers in India, he added. He was referring to competition from other MNC truck manufacturers like Daimler-Chrysler and MAN who are coming with high tonnage trucks in the near future.

The company has exported 130 trucks to neighbouring countries Sri Lanka and Bangladesh last year. Localisation content in Volvo trucks is to the extent 30 per cent. Volvo in India manufactures trucks, trailers and tippers in the range of 30 tonne to 45 tonne.
