The Uttarkahand government said it was preparing a new action plan for providing sops to IT companies so that they can expand and set up manufacturing facilities in the hill state.Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank directed Principal Secretary Finance Alok Jain to initiate steps in this direction and prepare the plan, an official spokesman told Business Standard.
The move came after HCL co-founder Ajai Chowdhary met Nishank, where the state government agreed to provide various sops for expansion of the HCL facility at Rudrapur.
Nishank said the government must also hold talks with other IT majors like Hewlett-Packard and Wipro to find out their requirements regarding sops.
A host of IT
players like HP, Wipro and HCL have set up their units in the state.
The chief minister said the government was trying its best to provide industrial-friendly atmosphere in the state where top-notch companies like Tata Motors, Hero Honda and others have set shops during the past few years.
"The government's top priority is that the youth in the state get employment opportunities through the industrialisation process," said Nishank.
For providing hassle-free services to industrialists, the government has also set up a single window system, he said.
Chowdhary said HCL was planning to set up a new facility for repair of electronic goods and software development centre in the next financial year.
Chowdhary also said that the centre's decision to increase taxes on computer parts was affecting the margins of the company.
