The Indian Railways on Monday identified eleven projects at an estimated cost of Rs 3502 crore (Rs 35.02 billion) for inclusion in the ambitious Mumbai Urban Transport Phase II (MUTP) project.
The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation has been asked to obtain the necessary consent of the Maharashtra Government for sharing the 50 per cent cost of the project, a release said in New Delhi.
World Bank would also be approached through the finance ministry, for financing the project, as soon as Maharashtra government's consent was received, it said.
The projects included Kurla-Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal fifth and sixth lines, Mumbai Central-Santa Cruze-Borivali sixth line, Bandra-Kurla (East West Link), Diva-Kaulyan (additional pair of lines), extension of Harbour Line from Thane to Andheri to Georgaon, DC to AC conversion from Thane to Chhatarpati Shivaji Terminal, Signalling and telecom upgradation on local lines to improve headway, Electrical Multiple Unit, maintenance facilities, stabling line for EMU's and EMU procurement.
The estimated cost of the ongoing MUTP phase I Project was around Rs 3,125 crore (Rs 31.25 billion) and would be shared equally by the Indian Railways and the Maharashtra government.
