Top dignitaries to attend 'Vibrant Gujarat' summit

Top dignitaries from various countries will participate in the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit-2009, senior state officials said on Friday.

Three parliamentarians from UK, vice president of Uganda Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya, besides a parliamentarian and senator from Canada will be among the dignitaries attending the summit, they said.

The endorsement of VGGIS-09 by the House of Commons of UK, has been a major boost to Modi's government, which is expected to highlight brand Gujarat during the event.

On the event, Primary sponsor Gardiner Bary had said in December last year, "The House celebrates UK's role as the largest foreign direct investor in Gujarat, the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi, and welcomes the festival of VGGIS."

"Gardiner Bary, the primary sponsor of EDM is likely to attend the summit," official sources said, adding, "we cannot divulge names of other dignitaries visiting the summit."

Prominent business delegations from various countries like Oman and Russia, who are considered to be big potential investors in proposed Petroleum, Chemicals-Petrochemical Investment RegionĀ at Dahej will also be present, officials said.

A delegation from Marche region of Italy is also expected to come for the biennial event.

Meanwhile, the international country partner of VGGIS-2009 Japan has also pitched in more support to make the event a grand sucess, officials said.

The 18-member delegation from Japan led by its ambassador Hideaki Domichi is likely to get bigger with the addition of that country's India centre, besides an industry delegation coming under the flagship of Japan External Trade Organisation.

"India centre is the first Indo-Japan global partnership forum to act as a catalyst for strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries," senior industry official said.

The India centre is likely to facilitate the visit of former special adviser for Economic and Fiscal Policy to the Cabinet office of Japanese Prime Minister Shimada Hamo and other eminent dignitaries, official sources said adding, 'names of visitors have still not been confirmed.'
