 The Khadi and Village Industries
Commission (KVIC) is on a mission to tap the enormous
potential of the North Eastern region in the village industry
sector by launching attractive projects.
From involving the IITs to granting loans and financing
projects, the KVIC has taken several measures to develop
different types of Khadi--cotton, silk, woolen and mixture.
These different types of Khadi play a vital role in
providing gainful employment and are also is a crucial factor
in our economy, says, P C Das Assam KVIC director.
These units are mostly labour intensive and the abundant
labour force in the country forms an ideal combination for
such
projects.
Besides, these units do not require large capital
investment and they also have the advantage of absorbing high
rate of traditional skill available in plenty in the North
East, Das says.
To promote village industries, the KVIC has made
programme through state Khadi and Village Industries Board
(KVIB), NGOs, individuals and self help groups through banking
system with 3 per cent margin money under the Rural Employment
Generation Programme (REGP), he says.
