Computer chip maker Intel unveiled on Friday its new range of 'core' processors for laptops, desktops and embedded devices with higher speed and energy efficiency compared to the existing ones.
This is the first time 32 nanometer processors have been introduced at mainstream prices, which makes video, photo and music downloading faster.
The launch is in sync with Intel's announcement of $7 billion investment last year.
"We wanted to make available one of the most advanced technology at mainstream price points. These smart processors provide a boost to everyday application performance as they are faster and more energy efficient," Intel South Asia director (marketing) Prakash Bagri told reporters.
This is also the first time that high-definition graphics and audio capabilities have been integrated directly onto the processors, he added.
The processors would support mainstream and casual 3D gaming, without the need for an add-in video card.
It also supports Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. In India, companies like HCL, Zenith, HP, Acer, Sony, Toshiba and Dell are expected to make announcements over the next two weeks regarding the availability of products embedded with the new processors, he said.
"We will have a new laptop priced around Rs 42,000, which will be available by February-March," HCL Infosystems executive vice-president George Paul said.
Asked about pricing, Paul said, "Though it comes at an incremental cost, prices will go down as volume grows."
