The South Indian tea crop is likely to be down by about 10 million kgs, while North Indian tea production is likely to decline by about 28 to 30 million kgs in 2004, industry sources told PTI.
The total South Indian production was expected to be about 183 million kgs compared to 193.5 million kgs in 2003, and North Indian production was likely to be 635 million kgs, as against a little over 664 million kgs during 2003, they said.
With the November production showing a decline and the December crop not having had much impact on the output, the total crop in 2004 would be down by around 38 to 40 million kgs compared to previous year, the sources said. Indian tea export had been good in 2004.
