The Tatas and the Hong Kong-based Jardine Matheson group, which has a 20 per cent stake in Tata Industries, have struck yet another alliance.

The new partnership is in information technology and is between Tata Consultancy Services and Jardine OneSolution.

TCS and JOS announced on Tuesday a tie-up to provide value-added IT services and a range of industry-specific solutions to customers in Hong Kong, Greater China, Singapore and Malaysia. Through the tie-up, TCS will gain access to JOS' clientele in these regions, while JOS will be able to enhance its bouquet of services.

The partnership is based on a revenue sharing model and comes close on the heels of TCS' foray into China, a booming market where it is on a relatively weaker footing.

A TCS spokesperson said the model of partnership between the two companies left them with "independence in many ways". The role and scope of each company will be decided on a "case to case basis", he added.

JOS is the largest local IT player in Hong Kong with over 2,400 employees. TCS, in comparison, has a workforce of over 20,000.

The TCS-Jardine alliance will act as a gateway for the Tata group software giant to expand its business in the region by leveraging on JOS' business network, expertise and in-depth knowledge of the Hong Kong market, TCS said in a press statement.
