"We have so far been providing high-end sterilisation products to private hospitals in India and now plan to start introducing sterilisation products for mid-end of the market," manager of Steris' global clinical education services, Kohn A Kurowski said.
Kurowski said the company was expecting more than ten-fold increase in revenues from India during the next five years to about $15-20 million from a low of $1.5 million at present following introduction of mid-end products.
Explaining the rationale for optimism about Indian market to growing realisation about the usefulness of sterilisation, he said, "If you thought hospitals are places where you would be treated for your ailments, think again. For all you know, you could return with some other disease or, God forbid, not return at all!"
This realisation is growing in India and the company plans to expedite it further by organising a series of awareness campaigns in the coming months. "Presently, mainly private hospitals like Apollo, Escorts Heart Centre, Jaslok Hospital, Wockhardt Hospital, Narayan Hridayalaya and All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences among others are using Steris products and I hope that other hospitals would soon start using the system," Kurowski said.
