Server revenues from India recorded a 31.3 per cent rise to $9.83 million during the second quarter ended June 2004, while that from Asia-Pacific rim registered a 12.4 per cent rise totalling $1.37 billion, according to global research and analyst firm Gartner Inc.

"Increased business from small and medium business segment contributed healthily to overall server revenue from India, apart from the consistent run-rate business," Gartner Hardware and Systems vice-president (Asia Pacific), Matthew Boon said in a release on Thursday.

Commenting on APAC growth, Boon said, "a number of factors like intense competition and price sensitivity in the region, as multinationals took on local vendors in markets like China, contributed to this growth".

"This allowed users to leverage on unique conditions and increase purchases," he said.

China continued to be the number one country in server revenues in APAC recording a 23.7 per cent rise with revenues touching $48.82 million, and garnering around 35 per cent market share, he said.

Shipment of entry-level servers increased due to heavy competition and a resultant decline in prices, Boon said adding, "A positive demand was witnessed from finance, government and educational verticals".

This was followed by Korea at $22.47 million, which was in turn, followed by Australia at $20.33 million, he added.
