Sensex up 3 points at 5,777

The Sensex ended marginally higher at 5,777 - up three points. The Nifty, too, gained three points at 1,819.

Wipro rallied a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 6638, towards the closing bell. While Infosys was up Rs 3 at Rs 1,708, Satyam gained a rupee at Rs 395. 

Reliance shed Rs 4 to close at Rs 554. ITC was down Rs 5 at Rs 1,116, and HLL finished a tad higher at Rs 129. 

While SBI and ICICI Bank inched higher to Rs 490 and Rs 296, respectively, HDFC Bank declined Rs 2 to Rs 408. 

Grasim has surged 2.2% (Rs 25) to Rs 1,175. However, ACC and Gujarat Ambuja ended lower at Rs 274 and Rs 358, respectively.  

Dr.Reddy's gained 1.6% (Rs 12) at Rs 768. Ranbaxy was down Rs 3 at Rs 1,088, and Cipla shed a rupee to close at Rs 289. 

HDFC advanced 2% (Rs 13) to Rs 683.  While Bhel rallied a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 623, Larsen & Toubro slipped Rs 4 to Rs 841.

Auto stocks were weak today. Maruti and Tata Motors were the major losers having lost a per cent each at Rs 366 and Rs 425, respectively. Bajaj Auto declined Rs 9 to Rs 1,019, and Hero Honda was down a rupee at Rs 436. 

Tata Power tripped a per cent (Rs 4) to Rs 328, and Reliance Energy was down Rs 3 at Rs 661.  Zee zoomed over 2% (Rs 4) to Rs 161. Bharti Tele pared gains towards the close and finished 1.4% (Rs 2) higher at Rs 157.

Sensex @ 1530 hrs

The Sensex is up three points at 5,777, and the Nifty is up two points at 1,818.  Infosys is up Rs 5 at Rs 1,710. While Wipro has gained Rs 2 to Rs 634, Satyam is up a rupee at Rs 395. 

Reliance is down a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 553, and ITC is down Rs 5 at Rs 1,116. HLL continues to trade flat at Rs 128.  Grasim has spurted 1.3% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,165. However, ACC and Gujarat Ambuja are down Rs 2 each at Rs 274 and Rs 359, respectively.

Dr.Reddy's has surged 1.8% (Rs 14) to Rs 770. While Ranbaxy has shed Rs 5 at Rs 1,087, Cipla is down a rupee at Rs 289.

Bhel and HDFC have rallied 1.5% each to Rs 626 and Rs 680, respectively.  ONGC is down a per cent 1% (Rs 8) at Rs 797, and HPCL is down Rs 2 at Rs 322.  Auto stocks continue to languish at lower levels.

Sensex @ 1500 hrs

The Sensex has recovered from the day's lower levels and is now down three points at 5,771. The Nifty is unchanged at 1,816.

Infosys has gained Rs 8 at Rs 1,713. Satyam and Wipro are up a rupee each at Rs 394 and Rs 633, respectively.

Reliance is down Rs 3 at Rs 555, and ITC has moved down Rs 6 to Rs 1,114.

Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda, Maruti and Tata Motors are still down a per cent each at Rs 1,018, Rs 433, Rs 365 and Rs 424, respectively.

SAIL is topping the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 55 lakh shares followed by Ashok Leyland (31.40 lakh), Bharti Tele (27.28 lakh), Tisco (21.45 lakh) and Reliance (14.86 lakh).

Reliance tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 82.61 crore on the BSE. It is followed by SBI (Rs 66.33 crore), Tisco (Rs 64.56 crore), BHEL (Rs 50.90 crore) and Infosys (Rs 48.19 crore).

Sensex 1415 hrs:

Fresh selling in select index heavyweights and auto scrips pushed the Sensex to an intra-day low of 5,756. The index is now at the same lower levels having shed 17 points. The Nifty has slipped to 1,809 - down seven points.

Infosys is up Rs 9 at Rs 1,714. While Wipro is down Rs 2 at Rs 630, Satyam is unchanged at Rs 394.

Reliance is down a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 553. ITC has shed Rs 8 to Rs 1,113. HLL, however, is unchanged at Rs 128.

ONGC has slumped over 1% (Rs 9) to Rs 796, and HPCL is down Rs 2 at Rs 322.

Bhel has moved up 1.4% (Rs 9) to Rs 625.

Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda, Maruti and Tata Motors have declined over a per cent each to Rs 1,017, Rs 432, Rs 365 and Rs 424, respectively.

Gujarat Ambuja is down a per cent (Rs 4) to Rs 357, and ACC is down a Rs 2 to Rs 274. Grasim, however, is up Rs 5 at Rs 1,155.

Ranbaxy has shed Rs 7 to Rs 1,084. Cipla and Dr.Reddy's are also trading weak at Rs 289 and Rs 753, respectively.

The BSE Auto index is down a per cent at 2,402, and the BSE PSU and Health Care indices are also fast losing ground at 3,707 and 2,569, respectively.

Sensex 1351 hrs:

The Sensex continues to move in the same narrow range of 20 points, and is now down four points at 5,770. The Nifty is down a point at 1,815.

Technology stocks - Infosys, Satyam and Wipro - are almost stagnant at Rs 1,718, Rs 396 and Rs 632, respectively.

Reliance and ITC have shed Rs 4 each to Rs 555 and Rs 1,116, respectively.

ONGC has slipped Rs 4 to Rs 801, and HPCL is down a rupee at Rs 323.

While Bajaj Auto and Hero Honda are steady at Rs 1,018 and Rs 434, respectively, Maruti and Tata Motors have moved down to Rs 367 and Rs 424, respectively.

Tisco has pared some gains and is now up a rupee at Rs 301. Hindalco has shed all its gains and slipped into negative zone and is down Rs 2 at Rs 1,366.

HDFC has advanced a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 677.

UTI Bank, Orchid Chemicals, Jindal Iron & Steel, Rolta, VisualSoft, GTL, Finolex Industries, FDC, Century Enka, Jindal Stainless, HCL Technologies, Castrol, Ingersoll Rand, Sterlite Industries, Essel Propack, Polaris, Neyveli Lignite, Shipping Corporation, IPCL and MphasiS BFL have rallied 2-5% each.

Oriental Bank, Siemens, Allahabad Bank, Container Corporation, Aventis Pharma, Fertilizers & Chemicals, Thermax, Ballarpur Industries, Dabur, VSNL, Corporation Bank, Alfa Laval, Bongaigaon Refinery, Jindal Steel, Exide, Jammu & Kashmir Bank, SKF India and HMT have declined 1-2% each.

Sensex @1305 hrs:

The Sensex is moving in a narrow range of 20 points, and is now up 11 points at 5,785. The Nifty is at 1,819 - up four points.

Infosys and Satyam are steady at Rs 1,719 and Rs 396, respectively. Wipro has erased all its losses and is now trading flat at Rs 632.

Reliance is down Rs 3 at Rs 555, and ITC is down a rupee at Rs 1,120. HLL, however, continues to trade flat at Rs 128.

SBI has advanced Rs 4 to Rs 490, and ICICI Bank is up a rupee at Rs 294. HDFC Bank is unchanged at Rs 411.

Auto stocks continue to reel under selling pressure. Bajaj Auto and Tata Motors are down a per cent each at Rs 1,019 and Rs 426, respectively. While Hero Honda has shed Rs 3 at Rs 434, Maruti is down a rupee at Rs 368.

While Tisco is firm at Rs 302, Hindalco has pared some gains and is now trading at Rs 1,373 - up Rs 5.

Bhel has gained 1.2% (Rs 7) at Rs 624, and Larsen & Toubro is up a rupee at Rs 846.

HDFC has advanced Rs 5 to Rs 675.

Reliance Energy and Tata Power are up a rupee each at Rs 665 and Rs 332, respectively.

The BSE TECk and Metal indices are holding gains at 1,485 and 5,236, respectively. The BSE Auto, BANKEX and PSU indices have slipped into negative zones at 2,411, 2,801 and 3,718, respectively.

SAIL is topping the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 37.44 lakh shares so far. Bharti Tele (24.61 lakh), Ashok Leyland (23.85 lakh), Tisco (15.05 lakh) and GTL (10.54 lakh) have also logged good volume.

Reliance tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 56.84 crore so far on the BSE. It is followed by SBI (Rs 50.49 crore), Tisco (45.45 crore), Bharti Tele (Rs 38.48 crore) and Infosys (Rs 30.77 crore).

Sensex @1221 hrs:

The Sensex has moved up 13 points to 5,787, following reported decline in the inflation to 7.38% for the week ended September 25 as against 7.80% a week ago.

The Nifty has gained four points at 1,820.

Infosys has rallied Rs 15 to Rs 1,720, and Satyam has gained Rs 3 at Rs 397. Wipro, however, is still down a rupee at Rs 631.

Reliance has recovered from the day's lower levels but is still down Rs 2 at Rs 557. ITC has rebounded into positive zone and is up Rs 1,123.

Bhel is firm at Rs 624.

Auto, banking and pharma stocks are also witnessing fresh buying at lower levels.

Sensex @1137 hrs:

The Sensex slipped to a low of 5,765, but soon rebounded into positive zone. The index is now up five points at 5,779. The Nifty is down a point at 1,815.

Infosys has moved up Rs 14 to Rs 1,719, and Satyam has gained Rs 3 at Rs 396. Wipro, however, is down a rupee at Rs 631.

Reliance has slipped Rs 3 to Rs 555, and ITC is down a rupee at Rs 1,119. HLL, however, is trading flat at Rs 128.

Auto stocks are under selling pressure. Bajaj Auto and Tata Motors have slipped a per cent each to Rs 1,017 and Rs 426, respectively. While Hero Honda is down Rs 3 at Rs 434, Maruti is down a rupee at Rs 368.

While ONGC is down Rs 4 at Rs 802, HPCL has lost a rupee at Rs 323.

Tisco and Hindalco are firm at Rs 302 and Rs 1,375, respectively.

Bhel is up a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 624.

Cement stocks are exhibiting a mixed trend. Grasim has spurted a per cent (Rs 11) to Rs 1,160. However, ACC and Gujarat Ambuja are down a rupee each at Rs 275 and Rs 360, respectively.

Bharti Tele has zoomed 2% (Rs 3) to Rs 158, and Zee is up a per cent each at Rs 159.

Banking and pharma stocks are languishing in the negative zone.

The BSE TECk and Metal indices are holding gains at 1,485 and 5,236, respectively. The BSE Auto, BANKEX and PSU indices have slipped into negative zones at 2,411, 2,801 and 3,718, respectively.

Orchid Chemicals, UTI Bank, VisualSoft, Rolta, Century Enka, Jindal Iron & Steel, GTL, Colgate, Finolex Industries, Polaris, Tata Chemicals, Torrent Pharma, ING Vysya Bank, Wockhardt Life, iGate Global, HCL Technologies, MphasiS BFL, Godrej Consumer and Indo Gulf are up 2-4% each.

Maharashtra Seamless has declined 3% (Rs 7) to Rs 237. Allahabad Bank, Thermax, CESC, Bongaigaon Refinery, Siemens, Oriental Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Jindal Steel, Andhra Bank, Aventis Pharma, Canara Bank, Union Bank, Syndicate Bank, Dabur, SKF India, Ballarpur Industries and Alfa Laval are down 1-2% each.

Sensex @1118 hrs:

The Sensex has slipped into negative zone owing to selling pressure in select index heavyweights and auto scrips. The index is now down two points at 5,772. The Nifty is at 1,813 - down three points.

Sensex @1034 hrs:

The Sensex has come off the day's high and is now up 15 points at 5,789. The Nifty is at 1,820 - up four points.

Infosys has gained Rs 11 at Rs 1,716. While Satyam is up Rs 2 at Rs 395, Wipro is down a rupee at Rs 631.

ITC is up Rs 8 at Rs 1,129, and HLL is unchanged at Rs 128. Relaince is down a rupee at Rs 557.

Tisco is up Rs 2 at Rs 303, and Hindalco has gained Rs 7 at Rs 1,375.

Bhel has rallied 1.7% (Rs 10) to Rs 627.

While Hero Honda and Maruti are up a rupee each at Rs 438 and Rs 370, respectively, Bajaj Auto has shed Rs 7 to Rs 1,021, and Tata Motors is down Rs 2 at Rs 428.

Bharti Tele and Zee have rallied a per cent each to Rs 157 and Rs 159, respectively.

The BSE TECk and Metal indices are up 0.7% each at 1,484 and 5,248, respectively. While the BSE BANKEX, FMCG and PSU indices have posted marginal gains at 2,815, 926 and 3,730, respectively, the BSE Auto index is flat at 2,426.

Sensex @ 1006 hrs:

Despite weakness at the overseas markets and rising oil worries the Sensex opened with a positive gap of nine points at 5,783. Fresh buying saw the index spurt to a high of 5,791, and is now up 15 points at 5,789. The Nifty is up six points at 1,822.

Infosys is up Rs 7 at Rs 1,712. Satyam and Wipro are up a rupee each at Rs 394 and Rs 633, respectively.

ITC has rallied Rs 9 to Rs 1,130, and Reliance has gained a rupee at Rs 559. HLL is unchanged at Rs 128.
