Carrier Devices owned i-mate on Thursday announced the launch of Windows Mobile smartphone and pocket PC phone in India targeted at the high-end market.

The new i-mate Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone and i-mate smartphone2 would be distributed in India through e-charge (Technology) Private Ltd.

"While the smartphone is priced at Rs 24,999, the pocket PC comes with a price tag of Rs 38,999," Karan Narula, CEO of e-charge (Tech), told reporters in New Delhi.

The smartphone offers full personal information management and e-mail functionality through Microsoft Pocket Outlook.

"A web browser in Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer, instant message capabilities with MSN messenger and ability to listen to music and play video with Microsoft Windows Media Player 9, all come as a standard in the smartphone model," Steffan De Rosairo, regional manager (Middle East), Carrier Devices, said.

The i-mate phones would enable a user to synchronise data with his laptop or personal computer.

Admitting that the company was targeting a niche market in India through its high-end products, Rosairo said, "We feel that as much as 8-9 per cent of the phone market is high-end, and of this we are targeting a market share of 4-5 per cent."
