Banga and Nilekani attend Clinton's meet

Top ranking Indians from the corporate and social sectors were present for the concluding day of the Clinton Global Intitiative conference in New York on Friday, September 22, attended by queens, prime ministers, ambassadors, singers and Hollywood stars.

Day 1: The Clinton Global Initiative

Present, for different modules of that day's session, were Nandan Nilekani (below, left), chief executive officer and managing director, Infosys Technologies; Ajay Banga (top, centre), chairman and chief executive officer of Citigroup's Global Consumer Group International; and Reema Nanavaty (top, left), who is the director for economic and rural development, SEWA, which represents self-employed impoverished working women across India.

Day 2: The Clinton Global Initiative

Nilekani (hailing from Bangalore, a city of approximately 6.1 million people) attended the module titled 'Cities of the Future' along with the mayor of London (7.5 million people) and the mayor of Curitiba, the capital city of the southern state of Parana in Brazil and a city with a population of about 3.2 million.

Banga and Nanavaty were present for the session called 'Women and the Power of Economic Opportunity' which was moderated by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. Also present were CARE and UNICEF officials. Banga offered on behalf of Citigroup $5.5 million for a global micro-finance programme.

By the final day, former US President Bill Clinton's conference netted $7.3 billion in pledges from across the world.
