The second edition of the Microsoft Corporate Challenge began in Kochi on Friday morning with 34 teams from across India, representing various companies, including Infosys, Microsoft, Reliance Capital and Pepsi Foods, participating in the three-day event.

"The Challenge is based on an extremely competitive, non-linear format that extends across multiple stages. Teams would be pitted head-to-head at every stage in a series of mental and physical challenges," Prem Bhatia, managing director, Sports Media Ltd, and Venkat Vardhan, managing director, DNA Networks, told a press meet in Kochi.

Teams from the IT, banking, advertising, financial services, telecom, media, FMCG and manufacturing industries will be vying with each other to wrest the mantle from defending champions ICICI Bank during the five-stage event, Bhatia said.

The competitions are being held at the Public sector Fertiliser and Chemicals Travancore's Ambelamedu

house, which has a forest stretch, Cheppanam island at Panangad and the adjoining backwaters and at Le Meridian hotel.

The activities would be a combination of running, rowing, cycling, light engineering puzzle solutions and the team, which takes the least time to complete the challenge emerges as the winner, Vardhan said.

Each team will have seven members, including two women, he said. Former National Badminton champion, Prakash Padukone, would be the independent arbiter over the panel of judges who would be finalising the results.

The challenge, which has been conceptualised, managed and produced by Sports Media Ltd and DNA Networks is the first such in India. The first edition was held at Goa.
