The Bangalore-based Development Centre of McAfee Security, a product division of Network Associates, is all set to be the largest in terms of people in the next 12-18 months.
The Bangalore centre is one among its other development centres located in US, Amsterdam, Canada and UK.
"The team in Bangalore will continue to play a significant role for our product development across the world. If the present conditions prevail, this centre will double its strength in the next 12-18 months. It would be the largest development centre in terms of people. It is currently 100-strong," Art Martin, president of McAfee Security said.
Martin added that the anti-virus market in India is proportional to the way India positions itself in the International IT scenario.
"The challenges and the requirements are the same as the Internet is a global medium. The attacks are similar whether it is by worms or hackers. There is nothing exclusive about it. But, security is definitely high priority in the Indian market," he said.
Though India estimates were unavailable, Martin quoted IDC estimates that the worldwide securities and anti-virus market, which McAfee caters to, was about $ 2 billion.
Eversince the acquisition of US-based Deersoft in early January, McAfee has been investing heavily on technology that affects productivity and security of an organisation_spam.
"We will provide security at the Internet gateway and the server to block spam messages," Martin said.
Besides online anti virus and firewall service that is being offered, McAfee will also be offering an on line spam service to consumers. The company has already announced major deals with AOL, MSN and Dell. Several other deals are also in the pipeline.
"We will not only reach the consumer with traditional retail channels but also through alliances with leading ISPs and PC manufacturers. We are pursuing partnerships in India as well," Martin added.
