Xansa to double staff in India

Xansa, a leading computer services group, will double its staff in India to 4,000 over the next one year after closing its loss-making businesses in the US and Europe, its chief executive Alistair Cox has said.

"We want to grow the business in India. We said we would double it in the past year and we have, and I can see us doing the same amount of growth in the coming year," Cox said on Thursday night.

He said the Indian operation's contribution to group revenues is likely to rise to between 12 per cent and 15 per cent, compared with 10 per cent last year. Earlier this year, it signed a $10 million deal to manage software for America's Lawson Software in India.

The company planned to increase its investment to the growing outsourcing market, where India has emerged as a low-cost market, but insisted the jobs would not lead to redundancies in the UK, Cox said.

The Group's UK payroll would remain flat at about 4,300 in the coming 12 months, while growth in India would result in the region's share of total group revenues rising significantly in the current financial year.

The turnover of the company fell 7.6 per cent to pound 419 million, largely as a result of closing its unprofitable international businesses. It has suffered from difficult trading in the past three years as the economic downturn crimped technology spending.

The order book fell slightly over the year but increased by pound 18 million to pound 500 million in the second half, when the company won a pound 180 million deal with Royal Mail in the UK, he said.
