With the terror attacks targeting even the IT companies of the country, the sector on Thursday beefed up security in campuses in other major cities even as several of them downed shutters in the financial capital.

The TCS House, main office of India's top software exporter, located close to Chhatarpati Shivaji Terminal and one of the targets of the terrorist attacks, remained closed.

"TCS employees who are working in South Mumbai can operate out of the North Mumbai offices. This is due to the fact that anti-terrorist operations continue restricting movements around South Mumbai," TCS spokesperson Pradipta Bagchi said.

However, the TCS offices in north Mumbai are working. While Infosys Technologies does not have a campus in Mumbai, the country's second largest software firm has beefed up security in other centres.

Infosys has campuses in Bangalore, Mysore and in other cities. Bangalore, known as India's Silicon Valley, has also been a target of the militants. The prestigious Indian Institute of Science came under attack in December 2005.
The city also witnessed serial bomb blasts in July this year. The Noida-based HCL Technologies said "Our office in Mumbai is closed for the day... We are watching the situation closely."

Industry association, Nasscom put up a brave face stating, "Our member companies continue to ensure that their customers are not affected."
