In a bid to nurture partnerships with industries through procurement contracts and technical consultancy, Indian Space Research Organisation licensed eight technologies for commercialization in the past one year.
These include technologies for polyurethane foot, coaxial resonator oscillator and polyurethane sach foot.
The polyurethane foot technology to manufacture artificial limbs was transferred to a social organisation, which will make it available to amputees.
More technologies are in advanced stages of licensing, and industries have already been identified for licensing agreements, ISRO sources said.
The know-how for Paras Software was licensed to entrepreneurs to meet growing demand. Software packages developed by ISRO for different applications are also identified for licensing.
The opto-electronic apparatus for static and dynamic measurements is being commercialised by a technology transferee. Efforts are on to develop a low cost version of the system.
ISRO also developed Isroflex heaters which will be used in GSAT-2.
The recipient of Olfex technology set up production facilities and started supplying the product to major users in the country. Similarly a company, to whom the slip ring technology was transferred, set up a facility to undertake different types of slip rings.
ISRO also transferred to a firm the technology for production of heat pipes.
ISRO is keen to safeguard technologies and products that it develops. Scientists at its research centres are encouraged to patent their innovations.
Besides, workshops are held at space centres with the help of patent attorneys and legal experts.
During the year, six patent applications having been filed by various research bodies in areas of mechanical, chemical and electronics engineering.
ISRO now owns more than 129 patents, 10 trademarks and seven copyrights.
So far, ISRO transferred 255 technologies through 500 industries in the country.
