IOC, Grasim bag Rajiv Gandhi awards

Indian Oil Corporation and Grasim Industries have jointly bagged the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award for 2003.

IOC's Vadodara-based Gujarat refinery and Nagda-based chemical division of Grasim bagged the award in 'best of all' category. Union Consumer Affairs Minister Sharad Pawar gave away the awards, instituted by the Bureau of Indian Standards in 1991.

The award for large scale manufacturing industry category was given jointly to Hindalco Industries and Nasik based VIP Industries.

Tata Consultancy Services centres at Noida and Chennai bagged thee commendation certificates in large-scale service sector category while Computers International, Chennai got the certificate in small industrial service category.

Satara-based Chordia Food Products, Chennai's Sree Vishnu Electronics and Kollam-based Hycount Plastics also got quality certificates.

Wipro's factory at Pondicherry and IOC Mathura-Jalandhar Pipeline division were given the commendation certificates for quality standards.

The award has been designed on the total quality management model, to be in line with the Malcolm Baldrige national quality award of the US, Deming Prize of Japan and European quality awards.

The winners were selected by the national award committee, chaired by the secretary of consumer affairs, government of India.
