To solve the problem of  increasing commuting times for software professionals in Bangalore, especially those at Electronics City which is nearly 15 kilometres from the city, Infosys Technologies has called for the construction of 'roads on stilts'.

Electronics City is home to some of the biggest names in the software industry including Infosys and Wirpo.

Speaking to mediapersons, N R Narayana Murthy, chairman and chief mentor of Infosys Technologies, said that 'roads on stilts' are nothing but elevated roads.

This suggestion comes from the Association of Electronics City comprising all the companies located in Electronics City and is likely to be submitted to the state government.

Mohandas Pai, chief financial officer of Infosys Technologies, said: "A four-lane elevated road would cost Rs 12 crore (Rs 120 million) per kilometre. It will cost an additional Rs 4 crore (Rs 40 million) for two additional lanes."
