Indian Airlines has extended the fares slugfest to the business-class segment with its Super Saver and Super Saver Golden Edge schemes.

The Super Saver scheme, to be launched by the airline on May 15, offers a passenger four business-class tickets to any destination on the IA domestic network for Rs 35,000.

The Super Saver Golden Edge will offer eight flights, which include two international tickets on IA's network, for Rs 65,000.

Both schemes have packages for economy-class passengers as well. The Super Saver scheme is a package of four tickets for Rs 25,000, and the Golden Edge offers eight economy-class tickets, including two on the international network of IA, for Rs 50,000.

The Super Saver scheme is valid for 90 days, while a Golden Edge package will last 180 days.

The tariffs for the business- and economy-classes in both the schemes are 20-40 per cent cheaper than normal fares.

A business-class ticket costs Rs 8,750 in the Super Saver scheme and Rs 8,125 in the Golden Edge. A normal business-class fare on the Delhi-Chennai route is Rs 16,656, and a one-way flight on the Delhi-Mumbai sector costs Rs 11,040.

An economy-class ticket in both the schemes costs Rs 6,250, while a normal Delhi-Mumbai ticket in the same class costs Rs 7,601 and a Delhi-Chennai flight Rs 11,287.

An IA executive said the Golden Edge scheme was different from the others in the market because it offered two international tickets.

A normal business-class ticket on the Delhi-Sharjah route costs Rs 15,283, and an economy-class ticket Rs 8,849.

He said while the packages were meant for the vacation season, the business-class schemes were aimed at corporate houses.

A travel agent pointed out that similar packages by Air Sahara, called the Sixer and the Super Sixer and launched in June 2002, had done well.

The IA offer follows the recent fine-tuning by Air Sahara of its two schemes for more variety. The Pan-India Super Sixer, which offers six business-class tickets across the Sahara network, is priced at Rs 58,000.

The economy-class package offers six flights across the Sahara network and is priced at Rs 46,000.

A response from Jet Airways to the IA package for business travellers was also on the cards, industry officials said.
