"We are working on using land resources and PPP model for having more residential as well as office accommodation in the future," Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy said on Tuesday while laying the foundation stone of general pool office complex in New Delhi.
Comparing the VIPs' penchant for pet accommodation and dream houses to road rage in the city, Reddy said the ministry is facing 'house rage' in the capital. "I have made more enemies in the last two years than the last 40 years of my life because of this."
"Delhi being the national capital, the requirement of both office and residential accommodation is high. While there are 62,388 residential units of various types existing in Delhi under general pool accommodation, we require 3,385 units more to reach satisfaction level of even 70 per cent," Reddy said.
Similarly, 77.85 lakh sq ft of general pool office accommodation is presently available here still there is demand of additional 30 lakh sq ft, he said.
A number of projects for both residential and office accommodation to augment the present stock are in the pipeline.
In Delhi, about 2,000 quarters of different types are planned to be added by the end of 2010 in areas like Dev Nagar, DDU Marg, Ali Ganj, and Netaji Nagar, Reddy said.
The new building to be constructed by the CPWD will house National Human Rights Commission, Archaeological Survey of India and National Consumer Redress Commission among others.
The building will have green building features, including use of fly ash, rain water harvesting, energy efficient lighting and solar water heating system.
"We will apply for earning carbon credits with the concerned authorities soon," said a senior CPD official involved with the project.
"Since we are having all green building features, including integrated building management system, we are expecting to earn a considerable amount of carbon credit," said the official.
