Carlson plans 40 hotels in India by 2008

Carlson Hotels Worldwide is aiming to launch 40 hotels in India by 2008.

The fifth largest private hospitality group in the world with a $38 billion-plus turnover, the Carlson group will open a bouquet of its hotel brands like Radisson, Regent International, Country Inn, Park Plaza and Park Inn in next three years.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch of Park Plaza in Gurgaon (Haryana), K B Kachru, senior vice president-South Asia of Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific said, "We will open 40 more hotels by 2008 and would become the single-largest operator of hotel chains in India."

"Carlson does not make any financial investment in any of our projects, but we will now be open to own investments too," added Kachru.

The group will target New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore for its premium hotel brands like Radisson and Regent International.

Carlson has signed a management and franchise agreement with Bestech Group, the owners of Park Plaza in Gurgaon.

"This is a 45-room, five-star boutique hotel and we will be targeting the corporates based in Gurgaon. We have invested over Rs 20 crore in this hotel till date," said Dharmendra Bhandari, Bestech Group Director.

Bestech Group has been responsible for projects in Gurgaon like Unitech Business Park, Millennium Plaza, Metropolitan Mall and DPS Gurgaon, amongst others.
