"Talks are on with the Planning Commission to identify and provide land for constructing the hotels on a priority basis", H R Bharadwaj, Union Law Minister said in New Delhi.
Inaugurating a seminar on 'Law and the tourism and hospitality industry', he said more number of hotels will be required in the capital for giving quality accommodation for the large population which will converge for the games.
He said while the Planning Commission is drawing up fund allocation for the project, the law ministry has promised all help to clear legal hurdles in acquiring land.
Observing that Delhi had witnessed a construction boom ahead of 1982 Asian Games, he said the Commonwealth Games was yet another opportunity to develop the capital region.
He assured the travel and hospitality industry of all help in removing "archaic laws" and other regulations coming in the way of the growth of the sector.
K M Memani, President of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which organised the seminar, urged the Minister to amend the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act and Standards of Weights and Measures terming them "obsolete".
