Growth offered by a company is the most important determinant of employee motivation and commitment, according to the second online survey by market research agency, Taylor Nelson Sofres, while salary does not have much of an impact on motivation or commitment.

The survey is based on the replies of 1886 respondents from amongst the 350,000 enrolled on CyberMedia Dice --  a technology job site.

The report notes that over 75 per cent of professionals have been with their current employer for less than 2 years, indicating that the IT industry has one of the most mobile work force. While the employees rate the quality of work place as average, on other key relationship drivers such as overall work culture and organisational climate, job content, a fair and transparent performance management and work life balance, the current employers are rated below average.

The survey found that professionals at junior to middle level with a gross salary of Rs 500,000 are more committed than those at the middle or senior level with a salary of Rs 12 lakhs (Rs 1.2 million).

Multinational companies (Indian or non-Indian) are able to command higher level of commitment compared to those respondents working with Indian and joint venture companies. It says that job portals are the most used tool for searching jobs. Those who are content with their jobs too have posted their resumes online showing that they are shopping around for the best deal in town for someone with their skills sets and experience

Commenting on the highlights of the survey, Abraham Karimpanal, head of technology practice of TNS India said, " Nearly a fourth of the job seeking IT professionals are an extremely happy and a committed lot with TRI*M index (mechanism for measuring, managing and monitoring stakeholder relationships) of 70 plus, significantly higher than the Indian industry average of 62."

The survey finds that salaries in western and southern India are higher than the North and East. West has the highest average annual salary of Rs 4,91,000 followed by South at Rs 4,79,000. The average annual salary of job seeking IT professionals in Bangalore and Gurgaon, just above Rs 600,000 market is the highest in the country.

The average cost-to-company of IT professionals working in Chennai and Hyderabad was Rs. 4,50,000 per annum in 2006.
