The government has simplified customs procedures for registration of export-oriented units, electric hardware technology parks and software technology parks for clearance of imported goods.

The finance ministry has issued a circular under which these units and technology parks would now be required to submit only six documents instead of the earlier 25 along with the application for registration.

The circular requires the customs authorities to grant registration to EOUs within five working days from the receipt of the application. This provision would considerably reduce the time period of granting registration from the present period of nearly one month.

The certificate of registration would be issued by the assistant commissioner or the deputy commissioner.

The ministry has also done away with the formalities of repeated registration of these units with various ports, as is the practice at present.

These measures would help EOUs in early registration with the customs authorities and in simplification of procedure, LB Singhal, Director General of the Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs, said in a release.
