Coca-Cola India said on Thursday that its operations have been expanded to cover three new countries -- Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka besides India, Bhutan and the Maldives it already services.

"The new responsibility is in recognition of the growth and success the Indian division has achieved over the last few years. The arrangement will bring in greater synergy among these six countries in areas of manufacturing and marketing of our products," Coca-Cola India president Sanjeev Gupta said in a statement in New Delhi.

He said the cultures and business practices of the new additions were similar to those of India and the senior management of the company in the United States was confident about Coke India's ability to handle the additional responsibility.

"This realignment of territories will mutually benefit both our division and the region in terms of synergy that will be generated and the best practices that all of us will commonly benefit from," Gupta added.

As a result of the realignment, the existing marketing, human resources, finance, public affairs and communications and other central functions of the Indian division will extend their support to the three new countries, he said.
