Encouraged by handsome growth in its retail business the Indian arm of internationally renowned acoustic company Bose Corporation has chalked out plans for expanding its business by opening more retails shops in the country.

At present it's Indian operation contributes a very small portion of the Bose Corporation's $1.7 billion worldwide turnover, but it is growing at a very handsome pace of 60 per cent, Ratish Pandey, General Manager of Bose Corporation Indian Pvt Ltd, said in Kolkata.

He said the company was quite bullish about its Indian business and planned to expand its retail business in the country by opening more retail shops.

He said that at present the company has nine retail shops in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Hyderabad while Kolkata would very soon have a Bose retail outlet.

Pandey, who was here to launch the new Bose Wave Music System, said that another purpose of his visit was to scout for a suitable place for a company outlet here as the city has a very good business potential.

To a query Pandey ruled out the possibility of Bose Corp setting up a manufacturing base in India in the near future saying that at present it did not make any business sense.

But he said that the company has set up a software development centre in Bangalore which is taking care of the software requirements of the company's eight manufacturing bases.

Five of these bases are in the US, two in Mexico and one in Ireland, he said.

Pandey said the Indian operations of Bose Corp were divided into two broad business units -- professional systems division and home audio division.

With professional systems, the company provided complete turnkey integrated audio-video and control system solutions for public spaces such as hotels, restaurants, retail outlets, auditoriums and stadiums.

The other division catered to the demands of the home segment by selling a wide range of home audio solutions starting from complete music and home theatre systems to a range of speaker systems through its retail outlets.

Speaking about the latest offering from Bose Corp, Pandey said that the system was based on the next generation acoustic speaker technology developed by over 250 engineers at the company's R & D centre.

Described as 'another milestone from Bose in changing people's belief about the sound quality they could expect from a small system,' the new system comprises a CD player, digital AM/FM tuner, amplifier and speakers all built into a very small compact table top set, he said.

Pandey claimed that the system, which could be attached to a TV, VCR, DVD player or computer, was meant for the mass music system market in India which was growing at a very fast pace.
