BEA Systems, a enterprise infrastructure software company, will set up its India development and R&D centre in Bangalore. This will be the company's biggest development centre in the world.

"The company sees India as a high-growth market for its new AquaLogic brand of service oriented architecture software. The software was launched in July last year," said Alfred Chuang, chairman and chief executive officer.

"We have seen tremondous growth in India and SOA has gained momentum. Our sales is growing by 50 per cent, next only to China (54%) in the Asia Pacific region. Today we opened our new facility in Bangalore which can house about 545 people," Chuang added.

"The company is set to cross $3 billion mark in revenues by 2008 and a major share of this is expected to come from AquaLogic and WebLogic productline. At present, 20 per cent of the revenues are from licensing of AquaLogic software ," he said.

The San Jose (California)-headquartered company achieved a turnover of $1.08 billion in the last financial year.

"The company entered a strategic partnership with TCS to develop SOA solutions based on BEA AquaLogic and WebLogic platforms. This is just the beginning and we are assessing ways to increase our investment in India," he said without divulging details of the investment.

The company plans a solutions centre in Bangalore. The centre will support BEA's long-term expansion plans in India and Asia Pacific regions. Apart from this, it will showcase new solutions and technologies in line with emerging domains such as SOA, said sources.

Currently, BEA Systems houses about 360 professionals at the Bangalore centre. There are around 270 software developers, said Sanjeev Kumar, head of BEA R&D Bangalore centre.

In India, BEA provides its services to LIC, Tata Teleservices, National Stock Exchange, Indian Railways and ICICI.
