This intiative would benefit about 26 million Airtel mobile customers, a company release said. Any Airtel customer on 3G compatible handset would now be able to experience seamless connectivity on voice or data, while on roaming on WCDMA network.
Earlier, the customers while visiting Japan and Korea had to change their handsets but now the 3G networks in these countries allows GSM subscribers
to connect to their networks.
The company offers roaming facilities on more than 365 mobile networks across 154 countries.
"An inreasing number of our customers travel overseas, which makes our roaming facility on international networks important. This initiative will add a lot of convenience especially to customers who travel to Korea and Japan," Bharti Airtel Joint President Sanjay Kapoor said.
