Tata Indica to hit British roads shortly

August 08, 2003 15:25 IST

Tata Motors' successful B segment car Indica is to hit the British roads very shortly under an export agreement with MG Rovers, United Kingdom.

"The shipment of Indica to the UK from the Nava Seva port is expected to commence very shortly," Rajiv Dube, vice-president, commercial, passenger car business unit, Tata Motors, told reporters in Chennai on Friday

In the first phase, at least 1,000 cars are expected to be marketed, he added.

Indica would be sold in UK under the brand name City Rover, he said, adding that UK was estimated to be an export market with huge potential in the entire Europe.

The company is already exporting its vehicles - mainly passenger cars - to Spain, Italy and Portugal in Europe and to the Saarc countries of Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Dube said exports for July 2003 stood at 1,430 units, as against 2,754 units in the same month last year. Cumulative exports for the April-July period in the current fiscal were 4,980 units, as against 2,754 units in the same period last year, an increase of 80.8 per cent, he said.
