L'Oreal scholarships for women in science

What: L'Oreal has planned a series of free seminars on "Careers In Science For Women" starting in Mumbai on January 9, 2008. The seminar is aimed at girl students studying science in junior college.

Schedule and details:

~ January 9 at the Ramnarain Ruia College, Matunga, Mumbai - Time

~ January 11 at The Shivaji Science College, Congress Nagar, Nagpur

~ January 16 at the SM Joshi Auditorium, Navi Peth, Pune

~ January 17 at the Indian Women Scientists Association (IWSA), Vashi, Navi Mumbai

~ January 21 at the NKT Thanawalla College Auditorium, Kharkar Ali, Thane

~ Girl students from all colleges and high schools across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Nagpur are invited to attend these free seminars. The seminar will start with a Panel Discussion on "The Role of Women in Science" and will be followed with the speakers elaborating about the "Career Options in Science For Women".

Scholarships:

~ The objective of the programme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students in science for a period of four years of study in their chosen scientific field, at a recognised Indian University.  A scholarship of Rs 250,000 each is granted to girls who achieve over 85 per cent aggregate PCM / PCB in their 12th grade, for the current academic year, from a college in Mumbai.

~ Potential candidates are requested to send in application forms along with mark-sheets and a proof of income of the parents. They are also required to attach a self written essay of about 400 words, stating the reason for wanting to pursue the desired field of study and also specifying their career plans. Short listed candidates are interviewed along with their parents by a panel of distinguished members of the scientific community.

~ L'Oreal India For Young Women In Science Scholarships Programme is L'Oreal's local initiative to encourage girls from the state of Maharashtra to pursue a scientific career. This programme was started in 2003 and currently sponsors the education of 20 young brilliant but financially challenged women.
