Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla confirmed the news through his Twitter account.

Shukla also said that he was hopeful that Khan will continue playing in the IPL.

The 37-year-old Zaheer took 311 wickets in 92 Tests in a career marred by injuries.

The left-arm bowler also had 282 wickets to his credit in 200 ODIs.

Zaheer also played a key role in helping India lift the 2011 World Cup on home soil, after a gap of 28 years. In the tournament, Zaheer was the joint-highest wickettaker (21) - along with Pakistan's Shahid Afridi.
