Doordarshan will telecast the five-match One-Day International series between India and Pakistan, beginning February 6.

The clearance to beam the matches in India came after the Supreme Court directed Prasar Bharti to pay Taj Television Newtwork, owners of Ten Sports, who have the telecast rights for the ongoing series, Rs 15 crore [150 million] for use of its signal.

By the agreement between the two parties, Doordarshan will telecast the signal of Ten Sports along with advertisements and ensure the signal is not spilled outside India.

Earlier the court had rejected Prasar Bharti's contention that it should not have to pay for merely telecasting the signal of Ten Sports.

Justice Ashok Bhan and Tarun Chatterjee directed Prasar Bharati to deposit with the court the amount, by February 9, which Ten Sports will receive as full and final settlement for sharing an "uninterrupted feed".

As per the agreement, Doordarshan cannot run any advertisement during its transmission.

"We will obey the order of the honourable Supreme Court and deposit Rs 15 crore. We will get a feed for all the five one-day internationals without running our own advertisements," Prasar Bharati CEO K S Sarma said after emerging from the court.
