When V V S Laxman scored a century (his fifth) on the final morning of the second Test at Mohali, it set a new  record.

It was the sixth century scored in the first innings and broke the previous record of five centuries scored in the first innings of a Test match in India.

Four Kiwi batsmen scored centuries in New Zealand's first innings while two Indians registered hundreds in  their first innings.

Mark Richardson, Lou Vincent, Scott Styris and Craig McMillan all made tons as New Zealand scored 630 for 6  declared.

Virender Sehwag and Laxman scored centuries in India's first innings of 424 to take the tally to six centuries  in the match.

This was also the first time that six centuries were scored in a Test match in India.

Before this, 5 centuries were scored in a Test match in India at the Ferozeshah Kotla in November 1948.

In that match also, four Windies batsman scored centuries.

Clyde Walcott, Gerald Gomez, Everton Weekes and Robert Christiani scored centuries in the Windies huge first  innings total of 631.

For India, Hemchandra Adhikari scored a century in India's first innings.
