Punjab earned two points by virtue of gaining the first innings lead after their Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match against Mumbai ended in a draw at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali on Tuesday.
Amol Muzumdar hit a century to take Mumbai close to Punjab's first innings score of 353, but the visitors fell short by a mere five runs.
Resuming at the shaky overnight score of 272 for 6, Mumbai needed 81 runs to level Punjab's first innings total of 353 all out. But despite some good batting by Muzumdar (119, 9x4) and W A Mota (74) they could only muster 348 before being bowled out.
Punjab were 113 for 3 at close when play ended.
Muzumdar added 53 runs to his overnight score before being was run-out to a throw by Amanpreet Singh. Mota gave Muzumdar the much-needed support from the other end.
Punjab lost the wickets of Ravneet Rickey (10), Karan Goel (16) and Gaurav Gupta (17) with total on 56, before Uday Kaul (23 not out) and Amit Uniyal (35 not out) took the score to 113 for three at the draw of stumps.
