Maharashtra were 72 for the loss of opener Dhiraj Jadhav's wicket in reply to Gujarat's first innings total of 369, on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Division Group B match in Nashik on Wednesday.
When stumps were drawn, stylish southpaw Hrishikesh Kanitkar was on 39, off 71 balls, including five hits to the fence, with opener Harshad Khadiwale (20) for company.
Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 200 for two, Gujarat were bundled out just before tea for 369 in 144.1 overs, with not out batsman Niraj Patel completing a century.
Patel scored 112, which included 18 boundaries.
The other overnight batsman, captain Parthiv Patel, could add only 10 runs to his score of 5.
For the visitors, Kirit Damani scored a stylish half-century (52).
Bowling spearhead of the host team Anupam Sanklecha captured five wickets, giving away 128 runs in his 37.1 overs.
Meanwhile, Gujarat's Hitesh Majumdar sustained a cut on his hand after four balls of his first over for which he needed stitches.
