India's ace leg-spinner Anil Kumble on Wednesday praised young Piyush Chawla, saying he bowled brilliantly in the just-concluded one-day series in Bangladesh.
"For an 18-year-old leg spinner he has done well; to come to the international level and perform the way he has performed is a good sign. I thought he bowled brilliantly, and I am sure that this will give him a lot of confidence. It's important to have faith in him and support him all the way," Kumble, in Chittagong for the Test series, said.
The veteran spinner also gave a thumbs up to Ramesh Powar and Rajesh Pawar, who are part of the Test squad.
"The two we have in the Test squad, Powar and Pawar, have a lot of experience at domestic level and have been doing consistently well for the past four-five seasons. Powar has done well in the limited opportunities he had got," he said.
Kumble, who retired from one-day internationals after the 2007 World Cup, said it has helped him relax.
"Focus is not an issue and probably I am a bit more relaxed now that I have announced my retirement from the shorter version of the game," he said.
He believes that the team that adjusts to the conditions will emerge triumphant in the two-Test series.
"It's going to be hot and the team that copes better with the heat will come out on the top," he said.
He felt Harbhajan Singh, who was dropped from the Test and ODI teams, is good enough to make a comeback soon.
"Bhajji has been a very quality bowler and I do not see him sitting out of the squad for a long time. But, like I sad, the two spinners we have here have lot of domestic experience and I am sure that is going to help them."
The ace leggie believes that Bangladesh cannot be taken lightly and India will need to work hard to repeat the success of the one-dayers.
"I think they have improved a lot. They have won some matches in the last two years in one-day cricket and that has given them a lot of confidence.
We respect them; they had come close to beating Australia at this very venue last year, so we will have to play to our plan," he said.
