The India Under-19 team went on a batting power-play to score a 187-run victory over the Australia Under-19 side at Bellerive Oval on Thursday.

India's captain Ashok Menaria won the toss and had no hesitation in batting on a flat Bellerive wicket under clear skies and his batsmen took full advantage from the outset, powering to a massive 371 for 4 from their 50 overs.

Australia could only muster 184 in reply.

India Under-19 now lead the five-match series 2-0 with the next match a three-day game starting at Bellerive on Saturday before the series moves to Perth next week.

India opener Mayank Agarwal was stunning in his knock of 160 from just 142 deliveries, in an innings that included 16 fours and six sixes. It was an innings the hosts had little answer to as Australia captain Tom Triffitt rotated through eight bowlers who all felt the full force of the Indian top order.

It was a tough initiation to leading the side, but Triffitt said there were plenty of positives to take out of the encounter ahead of the three-day match starting Saturday.

"I thought McDermott's first five overs were unreal," the 18-year-old said.

"He actually bowled the player that got 160 but the bails didn't come off and Luke Doran showed again that he's a really good spinner and can tie it down. We dropped a couple of chances which didn't help our cause, so we can build on that from here."

Maynak received excellent support from number three Mandeep Singh (151 not out), who also toned up in the 43rd over, his century coming from 91 deliveries as the pair put on 270 runs for the partnership.

Alister McDermott was the pick of the bowlers for the home side, the Queenslander finishing with figures of 2-67 from his 10 overs.

Watching from behind the stumps, Triffitt gave high praise to the way the Indian top-order went about their batting.

"It was awesome to see the Indians batting today and going so hard at us and bat so well," the teenager said.

"They play so differently to us, they've got different strengths and they utilised the short boundary so well and we probably didn't bowl quite as well as we would have liked."

Australia Under-19 slipped to 2-13 early, however West Australian opener Tom Beaton stuck around, combining with Tim Armstrong (37) to put on a 77-run partnership, before the home side was nutted out for 184 in 43.3 overs.

New South Wales all-rounder Adam Coyte was unable to bat after suffering a bicep injury while he was fielding in the outfield.

Beaton finished with the top score for the Aussies, his knock of 73 coming off 80 deliveries and included six boundaries and two sixes.
