Board of Control for Cricket in India president Jagmohan Dalmiya says a decision on Kanpur hosting the first cricket Test between India and New Zealand, from October 8-12, will be taken soon.

"The Board is still ascertaining the facts as to why the Test match cannot be held in Kanpur as planned and I am sure we will be able to decide on this issue soon," said Dalmiya in Mumbai on Tuesday.

He is in the city to attend Wednesday's Marketing Committee meeting.

BCCI joint secretary and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association secretary Jyoti Bajpai had said that the Kanpur pitch is still under preparation and expressed doubts whether it would be ready for the October match.

Dalmiya also confirmed that the chairman of the Pitches Committee, Kasturirangan, had resigned recently on health grounds and said there is absolutley no need to make a "hue and cry" about the resignation.

Asked if former Aussie skipper Greg Chappell will be attending the Indian conditioning camp as batting and fielding coach before the home series against the Kiwis, Dalmiya replied in the negative, saying: "I also read in the newspapers about it, but, personally, I don't know anything about such a move."
