Indian One-day captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni [Images] is within touching distance of regaining the top spot in the ICC [Images] ODI Player Rankings after his consistent show with the bat in the just-concluded Asia Cup helped him jump two spots in the chart.

Dhoni was last at the head of affairs among the world's top ODI batsmen for one week in April 2006 and now he has only South Africa's Graeme Smith [Images] ahead of him.

Dhoni moved up two places in the rankings as a result of his 327 runs during the tournament. He was dismissed just twice in five innings and had a strike-rate of 91 runs per 100 balls.

Dhoni's gain, meanwhile, is Sachin Tendulkar's [Images] loss as the little master, who missed the tournament, drops four places to number six in the listings.

Both Andrew Symonds [Images] and Kumar Sangakkara climbed up four spots with the Australian in ninth position and the Sri Lankan a place further back.

Veteran Sri Lanka [Images] batsman Sanath Jayasuriya [Images], whose blazing 125 from 114 balls against India in Sunday's Asia Cup final was the climax to a superb series, has returned to the top 20 and lies 16th, while his captain Mahela Jayawardene [Images] drops three positions to 27th.

For India, in-form Suresh Raina shot up 17 spots to 53rd position.

Meanwhile, Australian Nathan Bracken [Images] took over the number one position from Daniel Vettori [Images] of New Zealand [Images] in the bowlers' list, which does not include any Indian in the top 20.

Bracken rose to number one following his impressive performance in the series against the West Indies [Images].

Muttiah Muralitharan's 11-wicket haul in the Asia Cup sees him rise seven slots to seventh place while fellow spinner Ajantha Mendis, whose 6-13 in the Asia Cup final wrecked India's batting line-up, jumped up a remarkable 65 places to 85th position.

The ODI Player Rankings for all-rounders has Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik [Images] at the top even though a quiet Asia Cup for Shahid Afridi [Images] sees him drop two places to fourth, allowing Jacob Oram [Images] and Jacques Kallis [Images] move up one position and within touching distance of the first place.

Australia also consolidated its lead in the ICC ODI Championship table, moving two rating points clear of its nearest rival South Africa following its 5-0 demolition of the West Indies.
