All-round qualities helped: Powar

March 01, 2004 21:05 IST

Mumbai off-spinner Ramesh Powar says his all-round abilities clinched selection to the India one-day side for the tour of Pakistan.

"My all-round ability was my plus point. I have scored runs in crunch situations, coming down the order. Maybe this helped," Powar said in Dharmashala, where West Zone were beaten by North Zone in the Duleep Trophy match, on Monday.

"With such a good batting line-up I know I will only get a chance to bat in the slog overs," he said, looking forward to his international debut.

"It is a matter of great pride to make it to the national squad and I am very happy," said the 25-year-old.

"My natural game is to hit. I will carry on the same way I play for Mumbai. My hard work has paid off and I want to go ahead."

Powar has acheived the double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in first class cricket. In 39 matches he has scored 1622 runs at an average of 37.72, with four centuries and nine fifties, besides taking 111 wickets with his off-breaks.
